An invaluable natural paradiese in the eastern Alps
The Alps have always been home to a large range of incredibly diverse animal and plant species. Some of these are preserved in the Nockberge Biosphere Reserve, where there are varied plants such as the resilient Swiss stone pine and the fragrant Valeriana celtica, which is a medicinal herb that only exists here. The animals include shy marmots, alpine salamanders, numerous butterflies and birds. People have worked for centuries to shape this region and transform it into a valuable natural and cultural setting.
